Barbara Mitchum Obituary

Barbara Nettles Mitchum Macedonia, SC - Barbara Nettles Mitchum, 76, of Macedonia, SC, retired co-owner and operator of the Moncks Corner Handy Mart, died Saturday evening in a Summerville hospital. Her funeral will be 1:00 PM Wednesday afternoon, May 2, 2018, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM this Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Berkeley County Historical Society, PO Box 504, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Mrs. Mitchum was born January 28, 1942, in Lake City, SC, a daughter of Colel Dudley Nettles and Ruby Sauls Nettles. She was a graduate of Berkeley High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. Mrs. Mitchum was a retired Master Flower Show judge, and a former librarian at the Berkeley County Library. She was also a former member of the Town & Village Garden Club, the Camellia Garden Club in Charleston, the Belle Isle Garden Club in Pineville, and the Summerville Iris Society. Mrs. Mitchum was a member of the Berkeley County Historical Society, was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and loved arranging flowers and competing in flower shows. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Tanner, and was the widow of S. Howard Mitchum, Jr. Surviving are, a daughter, Melinda M. Ross and her husband, Terry, of Woodstock, GA; a son, Roger H. Mitchum and his wife, Debra, of Pinopolis; a brother, Jerry Nettles of Santee Circle; and two grandchildren, Courtney M. Barts and Cole Mitchum.
