Barbara Lisle Obituary

Barbara Banks Lisle N. CHARLESTON - Barbara Banks Lisle departed this earth on Sunday, November 5, 2023, and is now celebrating her new life in heaven with her Lord Jesus. She is survived by her loving brother, Eugene Franklin Banks of Charlotte, NC. She was born on September 6, 1935, in Richmond, Virginia, to Eugene and Grace Banks and was a proud graduate of James Madison University. Shortly after graduation she married her one true love, George Frenger Lisle (USN, Capt., Ret.), who departed this life on November 6, 2009. Together they had three children, Gene Lisle (Altamonte Springs, FL), Chuck Lisle (Summerville, SC) and Claire Lisle Smith (Charleston, SC); and were later blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Barbara was a devoted sister, daughter, wife and mother and had to serve as the mother and father role the majority of her married life as her husband spent most of his naval life on a submarine patrol, six months of every year. In her younger years, she worked as a teacher and then later worked as a realtor for Century 21. She also served as the assistant director of the Crisis Ministries soup kitchen where she loved feeding and ministering to the homeless community. Her final career was the most rewarding as she served as the Reach to Recovery Coordinator at the American Cancer Society. In this role she assisted women who were in recovery from breast cancer surgery. Her volunteer life covered a wide span of helping those in need. She was involved in Kairos Prison Ministry, led Bible studies at Grace Home in Santee for women recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, served on the Home Missions Committee at her church and was a volunteer at Water Missions International. She also served on the Altar Guild and the Praise and Worship team at her church, where she enjoyed playing the guitar. She loved music and also enjoyed playing the piano in her free time. She loved to work in her yard and considered it a form of therapy. Everyone that had the honor of knowing her loved her kind heart, giving spirit, and beautiful smile. This world was a better place when she was among us. The family will receive visitors in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel Monday, November 13, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
