Barbara Forte Obituary

Barbara Marie Link Forte AWENDAW, SC - Mrs. Barbara Marie Link Forte, wife for 53 years to Carlisle Nelson Forte of Awendaw, South Carolina passed into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, June 29th. She bravely fought a combination of illnesses until the Lord called her home. Relatives and friends of Barbara Forte are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Christ Church, Mount Pleasant at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. She was born October 26, 1937 in Norristown, PA, the daughter of the late John Frederick Link, Sr. and the late Mildred Bateman Link. She grew up in Newark, DE and graduated from Newark High School. She met Carlisle at the DuPont Company, where she worked as a secretary. They were married on February 4, 1961. Barbara taught school at Caravel Academy in Bear, Delaware and was a successful real estate agent for Patterson Schwartz in Newark, Delaware before moving to Mt. Pleasant when Carlisle retired from Du Pont in 1992. She made many new friends through the East Cooper Newcomers Club, was a member of the Garden Club of Charleston and volunteered with East Cooper Meals on Wheels. Many will remember her from her work with Philip St. Pierre at Lawn Rangers where she handled customer service including billing, estimates and landscape design. Barbara was a very creative person who loved life, good food, travel, growing things and meeting new people. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her husband; five children, Celeste Albers (George) of Wadmalaw Island, SC, Melissa Markham (Tony) of Wilmington, Delaware, Donna Hewitt (Shawn) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Craig Forte of Lewes, Delaware and Mark Forte (Kaitlin) of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren, Erin, Vincent, Alexandra, Alyse, Gavin and Lindsey; and a brother, John F. Link, Jr. (Kathy) of Malvern, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 583, Mount Pleasant, SC 29465.
