B. O'Neil Obituary

B. Ulrika O'Neil MT. PLEASANT - B. Ulrika O'Neil, a cherished member of the Mount Pleasant community, passed away on March 2, 2025, at the age of 53 following a three-year battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Kevin J. O'Neil and a devoted mother to her two sons, Calvin O'Neil and Oscar O'Neil. Born on February 13, 1972 in Yekepa, Liberia, Ulrika was the daughter of Thomas Johannesson and his wife, Barbro Tobiason Johannesson. She spent her younger childhood years in Liberia and Sweden before moving with her family to Walnut Creek, California at the age of 6. After high school, she became a nurse and then attended Graduate School at Northeastern to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), dedicating her professional life to caring for others with the utmost compassion and skill. Her work in the medical field was a significant aspect of her identity, reflecting her commitment to service and her deep empathy for patients and their families, although her proudest accomplishment was mother to Calvin and Oscar. She saw them mature into thoughtful, kind, and caring young men over the past three years and their humor always brightened her hardest days. Ulrika loved to travel, which she continued to do even during her various cancer treatments. She cherished the time spent with friends, whether it was a book club meeting, walks on the beach or just chatting over coffee. Ulrika's legacy will be carried on by her surviving family members. In addition to her husband, Kevin and her sons, Calvin and Oscar, she is survived by her parents, Thomas and Barbro Johannesson, her sister, Charlotta La Via of Santa Monica, California, and her brother, Lars Johannesson of Santa Cruz, California as well as 10 nieces and nephews and one grandniece. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, 10:00 am at Christ Episcopal Church, 2304 N. Hwy 17, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466, followed by inurnment at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held following the inurnment at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. Flowers will be accepted. Ulrika will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering positivity, her strength and the love she so freely gave to her family and friends. She touched many lives and leaves an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I worked with Ulrika for years at MUSC. Her presence in the procedure room was always calming and we knew that she was doing her job with great care and knowledge. Blessings to her family as they adjust and remember her love.
