Audrey Jernigan Obituary

Suffolk - Audrey H. Jernigan, 74, of the 1000 block of Delaware Avenue, passed away on December 18, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's. A native of Suffolk, she was the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Mildred Carr Harrell. After many years of dedicated service, Audrey had retired as a bookkeeper from the Suffolk Public Schools, where she had been awarded a lifetime membership to the National PTA in recognition of her service to the students and staff of John Yeates Middle School. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond T. Jernigan, Sr.; her son, R. Thomas Jernigan, Jr.; his fiance, Raz Baust; and her two granddaughters, Elise and Ava Jernigan. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara H. (Marvin) Fanny of Suffolk, Jean H. Harms of Alexandria, VA, and JoAnn H. (Thomas) Jones of Murfreesboro, NC.; a special sister-in-law, Lillie Jernigan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who all will miss her love, warmth, and generosity. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 21, at 1 p.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Friends may join the family for visitation at R. W. Baker & Co.
