Audrey Smoak Boyd LADSON - Audrey Smoak Boyd, 82, of Ladson, widow of Ollie Boyd, Senior Chief USN (Ret.) died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at her residence. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11:30 o'clock at Beaufort National Cemetery. Friends may visit at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, this evening, from 6 until 8 o'clock . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, Aviation Business Park VI, 5965 Core Ave., Ste. 603, N. Charleston, SC 29406. Mrs. Boyd was born December 16, 1926 in Orlando, FL, daughter of the late William Gary Smoak and Estelle Beverly Smoak. She was a graduate of Beaufort High School. She was an avid reader, a great cook, loved golf and was a homemaker. She had an active interest in genealogy and she was the "glue" holding family ties together. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout his military career. Surviving are nephew, Michael Edward Smoak of Beaufort; niece, Kathryn Smoak Crockett of Fernandina Beach, FL; long-time friend and companion, Octavia Brown of Summerville; great friend, Jeffrey Joyner of Newport News, VA; predeceased by her brother, William Edward Smoak; and many friends and relatives.
