Arthur Looper Obituary

Arthur Baker Looper, Jr. CHARLESTON - Arthur Baker Looper, Jr., 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Joanne Gill Looper, entered into eternal rest Monday, March 23, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street, at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Art was born December 16, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Arthur B. Looper and Ellen Welborn Looper. He graduated from North Charleston High School and attended Clemson University. He retired from Westvaco after 43 years and was actively involved with their retirees group. He was a very active member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was a member of the Colonel Lewis Sunday School class. Art was a member of the United Methodist Men's Club, a volunteer with the Church food bank and he also served on the Church Trustees Administrative Council and the Sanctuary Restoration Committee. He is survived by his companion, Etoile G. Alexander of Charleston, SC, and her three children, E. Mollie Alexander of Charleston, SC, C. Richard Alexander, Jr., M.D. (Sharon) of Florence, SC and Brian E. Alexander (Robin) of Charleston, SC; six grandchildren, Rich, Andrew, William, Brian Jr., Riley, and Reese; his sister, Annie Allen of Hanahan, SC; and three nieces, Frances Gay Westbrook (Douglas), Elizabeth Gay and Jeanne Ziemann (Andrew) and nephew Charles Allen and one great-nephew, Douglas. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church-Scholarship Fund, 57 Pitt Street Charleston, SC 29401.
