Arthur Hogan Obituary

HOGAN, JR., Arthur Arthur James Hogan, Jr., 64, husband of Ellen LaCour Hogan, died Monday, January 3, at his residence. Friends are invited to a wake on Thursday, January 6, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the home of Bill and Karen Prewitt, 33 Hasell St., Charleston. Mr. Hogan, the only son of the late Col. Arthur James and Marie Hogan, was born on December 30, 1940, in Boston, Mass. A Charleston resident for more than 20 years, he was a certified financial adviser. He was active in the Charleston Republican party and a dedicated poll worker. He served as commodore of the Charleston Cruising Club in 1999. He loved life, including his wife, his family, his many friends, reading, sailing and music. After graduating from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Mr. Hogan entered the U.S. Army as a lieutenant,1961-1963, and served in Korea. He went on to earn a masters degree in history from the University of Alabama and a MBA from Mercer University in Macon, Ga. He worked as a teacher in the Georgia cities of Columbus, Reynolds and Butler, and as an instructor at Trident Technical College in North Charleston. As the Federal Programs Director in Taylor County, Ga., he was instrumental in developing educational assistance programs such as Head Start. Other surviving relatives include step-daughters Ellen Thomas Hook, Julia Carter Brinkman, Elizabeth Dees and Paula LaCour Roberts. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

I had no idea that Arthur had passed until you called to make your appointment. I will very much miss the long conversations we had at the shop. He loved to talk about history and politics. Arthur was a true American Patriot and a joy to know. May God bless you through these hard times.

Dear Ellen, We were so sorry to learn of Art's death. His service to the Navy League and all the help that he gave me personally meant so much. Edwin and I are truly fortunate to have known such warm and friendly man. The two of you made an unbeatable team.

We were very sorry to hear of Art's passing. He always brought a smile wherever he went. We knew him thru the boating community and also thru his work. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Art will always be a part of the Kaup family. I will always remember his wonderful sense of humor and his joy for life and his love of Ellen and many dear friends! I will truly miss him.
