Arthur May McLeod Bartell INDIANTOWN, SC - Arthur May McLeod Bartell passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at The Presbyterian Community in Columbia, SC. She was born November 28, 1915 in Rembert, SC, the daughter of the late Annie Gertrude Pickett and James Harry McLeod. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, John Scott Bartell; her daughter, Sarah Harriet Bartell Ryan; and her brother, James Pickett McLeod. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Bartell (Monroe) Swearingen of Columbia, SC; her grandchildren, Jesse Monroe (Denise) Swearingen III, Laura Swearingen (Richard) Jackson, Jennifer McLeod Swearingen, Anna Caroline Ryan (Tom) Haeberle, James Hugh Ryan III, Amelia Ryan (Wesley) McMullan, Rebecca Ryan (David) Gregory; great-grandchildren, Jesse Monroe Swearingen IV, John Scott Swearingen, Avery Lynn Swearingen, Matthew Richard Jackson, Anna Elizabeth Jackson, James Hugh Ryan IV, Kristin Harriet Ryan, William Maxwell McMullan, II, Ryan Wesley McMullen, Samuel James Towe, and Sarah Joanne Towe. She is also survived by her nieces, Dr. Carol McLeod, Lynn McLeod (Glen) Hill; and her nephew, James Arthur McLeod. Arthur May was a 1937 graduate of Winthrop College and went to the Indiantown Community to teach Home Economics. She lived in Indiantown for fifty-seven years where she married in 1938 and raised her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was a very caring and wise woman. She had faith in God's plan for her life and the courage to follow the plan, sharing her gifts and faith with others. A graveside service will be held at the Indiantown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Indiantown, SC on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall following the service.
