Ardra Withers Obituary

Ardra Lou McKinney Withers, age 85, of Summerville, SC, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, surrounded by family who loved her dearly. Born on January 30, 1940, in South Bend, Indiana, Ardra was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend known for her gentle spirit, her creativity, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life. A lifelong caregiver, she spent many years working as a dedicated nurse, offering compassion and comfort to patients during their most vulnerable moments. Later in life, she became a trusted counselor, using her natural warmth and wisdom to guide and uplift others. Her presence was a source of peace and strength for so many, and the impact of her care will be felt for generations. After the passing of her beloved husband, she stepped in to run the family business with grace, determination, and quiet strength. A true example of resilience and love. She had a true gift for creating beauty and comfort in everyday life. Whether it was behind her sewing machine or in her kitchen, her hands were always busy with love. She poured her heart into every stitch, crafting quilts, clothing, and handmade treasures for her family. Her cookies were legendary sweet, warm, and always made with love a simple joy that brought people together and made them feel at home. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved sister, Carmen Williams (Rick), and her four amazing children: Patrick Withers (Bo), Randy Withers (Kim), Paula Withers (Jim), and Robert Withers, along with her many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Holmes Withers, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 10:45 AM at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2 PM. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, August 27, 2025 from 6-8 PM at Parks Funeral Home. Though she is no longer with us, the warmth she brought into the world through every stitch and every cookie will live on in all who knew and loved her. Yesterday

Ardie was the best classmate and roommate one could ever have. I met her in 1958 at UVA and we had remained in touch til her death. I will miss our weekly chats. She is now with her beloved Buzz.
