Anthony Morris Obituary

Anthony D. Morris, Sr. ALICE, TX - Anthony D. Morris Sr. passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. He was originally from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and his career led him to Texas. He was an award-winning journalist who first began his career in the newspaper industry as a boy cleaning a press room. Through his business strengths and natural abilities as a writer and photographer, he rose through the ranks to be a publisher and owned numerous newspapers during his lifetime, including the Berkley Independent, the Alice Journal, the Freer Press and Alice24-7.com. He was also longtime publisher of Alice Newspapers, Inc. He won many awards throughout his career for page design, photography and news writing, but those he was most proud of were for column writing, as he prided himself on being a powerful voice for the communities he served. He loved his children and his family. Anthony was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Clemson Tigers fan. He had a vast Dallas Cowboys memorabilia collection. Anthony was the co-founder of the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in Alice and was proudly inducted into the hall of fame by the organization. He served on numerous local boards including Camp Fire, the Alice Chamber of Commerce and the Alice-Jim Wells County Economic Development Council, to name a few. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Meree; father, H. Allen Morris; and brother, Michael Jeffers. Survivors include his children, Aliesha (Aaron) Brinson, Victoria (Kyle Hough) Morris, Aaron Michael Lopez, Lillian R. Morris and Anthony Morris Jr; sisters Debbie Jeffers, Judith (Dan) Heath and Rick Jeffers; the mother of his "miracle twins," Nicole Perez-Morris; the mother of his daughters, Tracy (Tommy) Evans; a nephew he loved like a son, Tony (Sarah) Wilde; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 5 to 9 pm at the Rosas Funeral Home Chapel in Alice, Texas with a Rosary being recited at 7 p that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Roberson Collins Cemetery.
