Anthony Davi Obituary

Anthony Peter Davi, Jr. N. CHARLESTON - SSgt Anthony Peter Davi, Jr., was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 26, 1935 and left us after a long illness, but peacefully on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the age of 78 surrounded by his family. Growing up in an Italian family, the son of Anthony and Rose Davi, he learned early the values of hard work and the strong bonds of family. He attended Public School #29 in Brooklyn, New York and entered the U.S. Air Force in 1954 at the age of 19. Tony served honorably for more than 20 years. He attended basic training at Sampson Air Force Base, New York and technical school at Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado. In 1954, while attending technical school, he met and married the love of his life, Edith Ruth Alsager, a small town girl from Story City, Iowa, who was working with the Denver Phone Company in Colorado. Tony was a crewmember, qualified on the B52 and B66 aircrafts and maintenance qualified on the B52, B55, and B47 aircrafts. During his military service he traveled extensively, and was stationed in 9 states (California, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Nebraska, Maine, South Dakota) and several foreign countries (England, Germany, French Morocco, Libya, Spain). He had a tour of duty at Phan Rang Air Base during the Viet Nam War. Tony retired from the Air Force while stationed at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. Following his retirement, Tony moved his family to Florida where he completed heavy construction training and later moved the family to Newton, Iowa where he worked in heavy construction, and later, some farming. He then moved his family to Goose Creek, South Carolina where he was the Manager of Mr. Deli's Sub Shop and owner of Tony's Deli until he moved to Windham, Connecticut where he again entered government service working for the Navy in transportation. He enjoyed his remaining years living in North Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by loved ones. Tony was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Edith Alsager-Davi; daughter, Tina Louise Davi-Porterfield; parents Anthony and Rose Davi; brothers, Frank and John Davi; niece Carolanne Lashway; and great-granddaughter Savannah Sutton. He is survived by six of his seven daughters, SMSgt Shirley Corrigan, San Antonio, TX, Teresa Jimenez, N. Charleston, SC, Antoinette Willis, Mt Carmel, TN, Sandra Mulligan, Norfolk, VA, Denise Hopkins, Charlotte, NC, and Diana Davi-Smith, Virginia Beach, VA; sons-in-law, David Willis and Timothy Mulligan; 15 grandchildren, Kenneth Corrigan, Natalie Corrigan-Foster and husband David, James Corrigan, Jeremy Jimenez and wife Toni, Russell Jimenez and wife Mandi, Shauna Porterfield-Otakie and husband David; David Willis and wife Robin, Joshua Willis and wife Nikki, Sean Willis and wife Cirissa, Anthony Willis, Stephanie Thomas and fiance; Clinton Sutton, Jacqueline Hopkins-Cox, Shantel Hopkins-Blackwelder and husband James, Samantha Davi, and Alex Smith; 23 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Roseann Geritano, Rosaria Tramantana, Ida Pantelo, and Marie Cito; and a brother, Joseph Davi. Tony will be remembered as a very loving and giving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend who loved his family, his country, and life. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2:00 PM at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 2501 BEES FERRY RD. Dear cousins and families,

I tried to send a note last night but I think I may have done something wrong so I hope this message makes it to you.
I see that the photos did make it.

We want you to know you're all in our prayers and we wish we could support you in person. I'm so glad to hear that Wendy and Craig will be able to do so.
Tell Wendy to give you all extra hugs from us!
I'm so glad to have known your Dad (and Mom) growing up. The times when you visited us over the summer with your camper, when we came to visit you in Newton, the time your Mom and Dad came to our wedding and our house and also when you and your Dad came to visit us in Rock Island will always be great memories.
I remember your Dad making his great pizza one time at Mom and Dads too.

I pray that all your memories will help you during this time. One day we'll all be back together at God's house. What a great reunion that will be!

Love you all!

Douglas, Sherry, Anna, Joshua, Erin
