Annie Westbury Obituary

WESTBURY, Annie HARLEYVILLE - Annie Lou Harley Westbury went to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral to celebrate her life on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 11 AM in the First United Methodist Church of Harleyville with Reverends Philip Bostrum and Ed Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at the Harleyville Cemetery. Pallbearers will Thomas Joseph Westbury, Jr., Barry Roach, Sr., Jimmy Griffith, Eathan Spurlin, Chase Bollinger and Ray Harley. Visitation will be at Bryant Funeral Home in St. George from 6 to 8 PM on Monday March 30, 2009. She was born January 17, 1920 in Harleyville, and is the daughter of the late Joseph Cusack Harley and Nancy Lula McKissick Harley. Annie Lou was a life-long active member of the Harleyville First United Methodist Church, a member of the Goodwill Missionary Circle and the American Legion Auxiliary. She sang in the church choir and served on many boards while a member of the church. Annie Lou worked as an Avon representative, worked at the Posey Patch Florist, and wrote the "Harleyville News" column for the Dorchester Eagle-Record for many years. She was an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas Edward Westbury and Andrew Julius "AJ" Westbury, Jr. Surviving are her two children, Mary Lou Perkins of Folly Beach, SC, and Thomas Joseph (Margaret) Westbury of Harleyville; six grandchildren, James Edward (Patty) Westbury, Sr. of Lexington, SC, Donald B. Perkins, Jr. of Nicholasville, KY, Lisa (Barry) Roach, Sr. of Harleyville, Christine (Robert) Bollinger of Fort Mill, SC, Catherine Spurlin of Crab Orchard, KY, Thomas Joseph (Wanda) Westbury, Jr. of Canton, GA; eleven great-grandchildren, Amber (Steven) Wickers of Lexington, SC, Barry (Stephanie) Roach, Jr. of Cope, SC, Shawna Roach of Harleyville, James (Nancy) Westbury, Jr. of Fairbanks, AK, Kaysie, Kristie and Elizabeth Westbury of Canton, GA, Erin and Chase Bollinger of Fort Mill, SC, and Ethan and Haley Spurlin of Crab Orchard, KY; and a great-great grandson, James Edward Westbury III of Fairbanks, AK; and sisters-in-law, Dell W. Griffith, Harleyville, Nellie Mae Reeves, Reevesville and Elizabeth Harley, Charleston and a number of nieces and nephews. Flowers will be accepted or a memorial may be made to the Harleyville First United Methodist Church, 135 East Main Street, Harleyville, SC 29448.
