Anne Dorn Obituary

Anne Wallace Newton Dorn GREENVILLE, SC - Anne Wallace Newton Dorn, affectionately known as "Aunt Annie", "Mom", "Keeper of the Zoo", "wonderful daughter", "nugget", "hey you", "honey", "sugar baby" and most of the time, simply, "Annie." Anne passed on May 15, 2014 after a short and unexpected illness. She is married to Wm. Jennings B. Dorn, Jr. for 30 years and is the mother of Madison Elizabeth Dorn and William J.B. Dorn, III. Madi attends Greenville High School while William graduated Christ Church's CCES and now attends the American University of Paris, Paris, France. Anne is survived by her parents, Robert Newton and Elizabeth Felder Newton of Beaufort, SC, her brother Andrew Newton and his wife, June and her beloved nephews- James and Thomas Newton, and Bruce Lawrence, Will Batson, Patrick Dorn-Kennedy, Griffith Dorn, Christopher Pracht (aka, Aunt Annie) and Oliver, Camden, Lexi, Nicolai and Sebastian (aka, Keeper of the Zoo). Anne graduated Heathwood Hall Episcopal High School in Columbia, SC and attended Columbia College before meeting Jennings (Anne says he's the reason in not earning her degree). Anne professionally played the violin with both the Florence and Columbia Orchestras and cherishes her many close musical friends. Anne is a vibrant, talented, and caring person who enjoys music, outdoor activities (like hunting where she was as accomplished with an archery bow as she was with the violin bow), baking cakes, and unique wilderness trips to Montana with cousin Salley, fly-fishing and horseback riding, and especially beach trips to Pawley's Island. Anne's career (as mother, aunt, and professional) took her from the wonderful cities of Augusta, Charlotte, New York, Atlanta, St. Louis, and Greenville. She is not only accomplished in her "mom career" but also in her professional career earning numerous promotions cumulating with Coordinator of Business Development at Porter Novelli in New York. Anne's life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service at 11 AM on Monday, May 19th at Christ Church Episcopal, Markley Chapel, Greenville, SC, with her family receiving friends following the service at the church. The family and friends will join each other at Barratt House in Greenwood, SC on Sunday, May 18th at 4 PM for the burial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christ Church Episcopal Music Ministry. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

I met Anne when I worked at PetSmart in Saint Louis. She quickly became a favorite customer, and even invited me to her home several times. She had the best collection of pets. Her children were awesome too, so polite, and clever. We chatted often about horseback riding. I know it's been years since her passing, I just wanted to sign the guest book. My condolences to her loved ones. Anne was a beautiful person inside, and out.

Anne and I grew up in Sumter together and were two peas in a pod. We did everything together and still remember us playing dress up as brides and in her parent's backyard. We were something. Will miss you

Jennings, Nancy and I are so sorry to hear this news. Happened to see it on Facebook via Barbara Dorn. Though we never met Anne, she must have been an unusually accomplished and treasured woman. We remember your whole family well from our years in Greenwood so long ago. Even though our son Eric happened across you when you lived in St. Louis we never followed through on our good intentions of getting in touch, much to our regret. Please accept our condolences for your grievous loss. We will be thinking of you and praying for you tomorrow during the service and beyond.

Peace,
Jerry and Nancy Keeney, St. Louis, MO
