Anna Scearce Obituary
Norfolk - Anna Lou Reasor Scearce, 85, of John Knox Towers, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 in a local hospital. Anna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was always in charge in every situation, she was "The Boss". Born in Deep Springs, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lillie Agnes Smyth Reasor and Samuel Logan Reasor, and was the widow of Reuben Reynolds Scearce.
Anna attended Radford College, where she played basketball. From then on she loved basketball and followed her favorite team, The Boston Celtics. She was a 50 plus year member of Ghent United Methodist Church. She also loved to travel and traveled by bus with her sister and brother to many of the states in our nation.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved daughter, Gwendolyn S. Allen and husband, Melvin of Virginia Beach; two sons, Cheyenne Scearce and wife, Elizabeth of Salisbury, Md. and Hugo Scearce of Norfolk; a sister, Virginia Lee Reasor of Johnson City, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Cheyenne Scearce II, Julian Scearce, Dorothy Allen, Joseph Scearce and wife, Megan, Stephanie Bowden and husband, John, Amanda Scearce, Ryan and Craig Shull, and Andrea Hernandez and husband, David; and eight great grandchildren, Tyler Scott, Emma, Joseph Reuben, Ariana, Gabriela, Nicholas, Chayse, and Madyson. She was loved by many friends and had adopted a lot of them as her daughter or grandchild. Anna was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheryl and eleven of her brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends at a visitation at the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. on Sunday, Nov. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of her life will be conducted at H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts. at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 with Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Hampton National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507. Online condolences may be offered to her family through www.hdoliver.com.
