Ann Smith Obituary

Ann Smith Moncks Corner - Ann Marie Goodyear Smith, 76, of Moncks Corner, SC, entered into eternal rest on April 27, 2022, following an extended illness. Ann, daughter of Cecil Pound Goodyear and Annie Mildred Dew Goodyear, was born on January 18, 1946 in Dillon, SC. She also lived in Mullins and Conway, SC, but considered Moncks Corner home. She was a graduate of Berkeley High School, where she was a leader among her peers as President of Student Council, voted "Best All Around" senior and chosen to attend Girls State. Ann received BS and MAT Degrees from Winthrop College in four years. Over time, she was employed by Appalachian State University, Johnson and Wales University of Charleston, the Berkeley County School System, and American School Food Services Association. As head of ASFSA in Denver, CO, Ann was over all lunchrooms in the US. A highlight of her career was testifying before Congress on behalf of ASFSA and being recognized and commended by CBS news and History Channel commentator, Roger Mudd, for an address well presented. Having lived, also, in Raleigh, NC, Englewood, CO, and Layton, UT, Ann returned home to Moncks Corner, where she served as a dedicated teacher. She was a faithful member of the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, was a member of the altar guild, and taught a women's Bible study until she became ill. Ann loved to travel, history, family, genealogy, sewing, cooking, all aspects of hospitality and was an avid reader. She was the devoted mother of Walter Russell Smith (deceased) and Sherry Lynette Smith Schumann Roberts of Moncks Corner. Ann was predeceased by great-granddaughter, Lyla and is survived and beloved by three grandchildren: Michael Chase Schumann, Nathan MacKenzie Schumann (Destiny), Hannah Marie Schumann Porter (Zach); 13 great-grandchildren: Chase, Tucker, Landon, Emma, Maci, Ariana, Gracelyn, , Kamden, Madi, Grant, Lauren, Addisyn, and Sayde; her brother, James Cecil Goodyear (Karen Burt) of Moncks Corner and sister Elizabeth "Betty" Goodyear Schaffer (James) of Charleston as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who were also dear to her heart. Her funeral service will be 1:00 PM Monday afternoon, May 2, 2022, in the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at 4:30 PM in Cedardale Cemetery, Mullins, directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 PM until the hour of service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church, 106 Church St., Moncks Corner, SC 29461 or Hospice of Charleston, 3896 Leeds Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405.
