Ann Martin Obituary

Ann Louise Martin, age 71, of Charleston, South Carolina passed away on October 2, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC on December 24, 1953, to Otis and Nancy Martin, Ann lived most of her life in the City of Charleston and James Island, SC. After obtaining her accounting degree from the College of Charleston, Ann began a successful career working as a CPA for various companies including Jones Pounder & Associates, Wilson & Quirk and CFO of Fox Music. Ever ambitious, Ann decided to create her own accounting company, Core Business Dynamics. Ann specialized in helping the local small and medium sized businesses of Charleston get through tax season with a care and understanding that would build lasting friendships with her clients. Anyone who met Ann quickly realized that she was a force of nature when it came to any competitive activity. Whether it be sailing or tournament fishing at the Charleston Yacht Club (CYC), her love of the ocean was captivating. She won the women's division of the CYC Offshores Fishing Tournament with the only sailfish caught in the competition. There was one (late 1970's) tournament where Ann caught a Blacktip Shark, but someone laid it next to the outboard motor. An hour later, shark forgotten, they started the engine. Alas, it was the flock of seagulls diving in the nearby waters that benefited most that day. Well not to be deterred, Ann bravely took the remaining tail of that shark to the weigh-in. She then proceeded to describe the 'huge' shark that had been attached to that tail, lobbying for first place ranking, much to the laughter and amusement of her fellow anglers. That was "Annie". Ann also loved lowcountry cooking and canning fruit. Yet she was most in her element in her Boston Whaler, somewhere near the barrier islands with her favorite Cocker Spaniels, Heather, Pie and Sadie. Ann is survived by her sisters Katharine and Sandy, her stepson Sean, grandson Jayden, cousins Mike, Conyous and Vivian and nieces Ali, Ashley and Elizabeth, as well as, her beloved dog and cat, Simon and Garfunkel.
