Ann Kirk Obituary

Ann Lynn Kirk Johns Island - Ann Lynn Kirk died on June 4, 2016 after a brief battle for recovery after suffering a fall and resultant stroke and traumatic brain injury. Ann passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born June 10, 1948 in San Antonio, TX into an Air Force family. Throughout her childhood she lived in TX, VA, OH, CA, France, AL and returned to TX where she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1966. She earned a BS in Education in 1970 from Southwest Texas State University, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. Ann began teaching elementary school in San Antonio, when she met the love of her life, Al Kirk. They were married in August 1971 and moved to Enid, OK for Al to begin Air Force pilot training. Future Air Force moves included Newport News, VA; Puyallup, WA; and finally Marietta, GA in February 1979 where Ann began her life as a Delta Air Lines pilot's wife. While in Marietta, Ann's love of teaching continued as she taught kindergarten and was a substitute teacher for many years. She later became a set tutor for television shows and movies to include the TV show "I'll Fly Away" and the movie "Remember the Titans." Throughout her 34 years in Marietta, Ann kept her calendar full. She was a long time member and past-president of Indian Hills Women's Golf Association. She was a course rater for many years and Director of GSGA from 2008-2013. Her love for the game of golf had many memories to include being the Women's Club Champion at Fort McPherson and a hole-in-one in 2007. Ann was a member of multiple ALTA teams that won city and division championships. Additionally, she was a founding member of The Twilight Twirlers of Marietta, as well as the seamstress for all their costumes. They marched in parades in GA, LA, and TN and at Disney World. Ann and Al moved to Charleston, SC in 2013. She immediately became active in the Stono Ferry WGA and quickly acquired many new friends. Ann's greatest sense of pride was from her children and her beloved grandchildren. Al and Ann were married almost 45 years and made some amazing memories including golfing in Ireland, family beach vacations to Emerald Isle and St. Augustine, and every moment with their yellow lab, Lexi. Ann was an avid sports fan who loudly rooted for the Braves, Cowboys and Ole Miss Rebels. Ann will be remembered by her beautiful blue eyes, contagious smile and her overall love of life and everyone around her. Ann was predeceased by her parents, Ernest Eugene and Mildred Irene Gossett. Surviving Ann are her adoring husband, Al; their 2 children: Brian (Tieah) and Katherine (Michael); her brothers David and Bob, sister Nancy; and her 4 grandchildren: Olivia, Tyler, Virginia Ann and Cooper; and yellow lab, Lexi. Donations may be made to the MUSC Children's Hospital Fund, 59 Bee Street- MSC 201, Charleston, SC 29425. A service was held Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant, SC. The family will have a celebration of her life later this summer in Atlanta. I just heard about Ann's passing. I am so sorry for your loss.

I met Ann 30 years ago at Carol Gordon's home. All of us had so much fun playing bunko for many years.

Ann was always so happy and full of life. She loved her husband and family.

I will miss my dear friend every single day. She was truly an angel on earth. I have never met someone who could truly be so genuine and so loving to all. She amazed me. I learned a lot from her and I will cherish the times we had together forever. I am grateful God brought us all together; you are such a wonderful family. My boys adored her and she will always remain in our hearts. I am sending prayers to Al, Katherine, Brian, and all of the family. I can't imagine how you are feeling but I hope you all know you have friends who love you and care. Thinking of her contagious smile today and smiling back to her in heaven. My Love to you all.

Katherine and family: you all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers, as you have been since the day I heard about the fall. I hope the outpouring of love for Ann from so many people brings you comfort. I am sorry that the extensive story of all of the remarkable things she accomplished in her life was still cut too short. Love, Bess
