Mrs. Powers was my music teacher at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary! She ultimately was the inspiration of me choosing a career in music education. I am a high school band director in Georgia. Thank you Mrs. Powers!

Just condolences from yet another student impacted by her many years of service to the arts as an educator.
I am an orchestra teacher now and have often thought back (with so much thanks) to my short time getting to work with Ms. Powers at SVHS. I was the nerd that talked her into offering AP Theory there, and I know it wasn't her ideal schedule, but she put up with us like a champ.
Every child she worked with benefited beyond anything we can imagine. I know she is missed.

We just heard about the passing of Mrs. Powers from one of her former elementary students. She was my daughter's chorus teacher at Forest Lake Elementary and she made sure every child had a part in their programs especially musicals. Mrs. Powers was one of the pieces of the puzzle that made Forest Lake such a special school.

Learning of Angela's passing was a shock. I knew her mostly through her children and she was a fabulous mother. But I knew her professionally, as well, and she was a fine and adroit musician with enviable talents and skills. To say her essence will be missed would be less than an understatement. I offer my condolences to her wonderful family and may that wonderful and joyful essence be with you forever.

Dear Lee and Ted, I’m so sorry to learn of Angela’s death. I have many fond memories of her vivaciousness and her sense of humor. I’d forgotten that I was only two years older than she when I played her step mother in “Hansel and Gretel.” Angela was a bright light. My deepest condolences.❤ Mary Lawrence

Mrs.A Powers was the music teacher for both our daughters. She also was our youngest daughter's first chorus instructor and then music director. When Jazz would have to sing solos or had a lead part in the play, she would say make sure you smile. We will always love Mrs.Powers and will keep family and friends in our prayers.

She touched our hearts and soul with her warmth, compassion, humor and laughter. We are all blessed to have had her share her musical knowledge and ability with us. Our worship service was enhanced with the beautiful voices raised under her direction - all to honor God, not themselves. She will be missed

I was just talking about Mrs.Powers last week to my neighbor who is on his way to middle school from our old Elementary School Forest Lake and how she pulled me after music class and wanted me to sing a solo after the whole class had to either play an instrument or sing (She had a special guest come in so we had to do what the visitor was teaching). It was Black History Month I believe. I remember the lady saying it was my turn to go in front of the music class. I got up and Mrs.Powers said what am I going to do and I didn´t want to sing, but I said I´m going to sing. The song was "Oh Freedom" by Odetta (one of the little songs we learned out the music books in class). I was always nervous to sing but that lady made me do it because too many kids in the class volunteered to play music. I walked to those black chorus bleachers in the back and Mrs.Powers played the Piano to the song and I felt sick . I hit that "annnddd gooo hommme, to my Lord and be Freeeeee" so smooth. The lady was surprised and Mrs.Powers said Good Job with a look on her face. I was 2nd to last before the bell rung. She pulled me and said I sound really good and if I would sing for one of the School Assemblies. I told her I was scared and I didn´t want too (I wasn´t in Chorus in 4th or 5th grade). She asked one more time and I just couldn´t do it. She said ok and didn´t force me, but wouldn´t let me forget it for a few weeks. (Just tried out for middle school chorus). Such a great Lady. Even if that was a slave/war song, the "and go home to my Lord, and be free" part is a perfect run to keep remembering about her. A cool Elementary School Music Teacher . Crazy how you talk up a person. Energy never dies. Still one of my Favorite souls to impact my life even in my 30 years of life. Just all around amazing. Till later Mrs.Powers.

You knew how to host an event, throw a party, make someone feel special, make something beautiful, how to handle difficult people, how to laugh, to have fun, to forgive, to make music, to be tender hearted, how to love people and a dog named Rocky. Be with us from above when you can. Our hearts are with you. Thanks for everything.

I love Mrs. Powers, she was my fourth and fifth grade chorus teacher. She also was my high school chorus teacher. She was the best teacher ever, and I will never forget the Disney trip we took with her. Rest In Peace to an angel of love.
