Amelia Thompson Coker-Barr CHARLESTON - Mrs. Amelia Thompson Coker-Barr, 84, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest Friday, August 26, 2022. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 570 Rutledge Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2915 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29418. A public viewing will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the church, followed by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Omega Omega Services beginning at 10:00 am. She is survived by her loving husband, John A. Barr; sons: Mr. Domon Barr and Mr. Clemente Barr; sisters: Mrs. Evelyn T. Workman, Mrs. Dorothy T. Heyward, and Mrs. Lorraine T. Burke; brothers-in-law: Rev. Dr. John W. Heyward and Mr. Walter T. Burke, Jr.; nieces: Mrs. Lynn-Marie B. Boone, Mrs. Kim Amelia Gregg, Ms. Joy-Lynn P. Heyward, Mrs. Gloria P. Campbell-Brooks, Mrs. Javonka C. Campbell, and Mrs. Latasha B. Heyward; nephews: Mr. Walter T. Burke, III, and Mr. Theodis R. To the Thompson, Coker, and Barr Families, you have my condolences in the passing of Mrs. Amelia. I remember Mrs. Amelia. She and I worked together at Baptist High School in Hollywood, SC. She was the music teacher. I taught English. She was very professional. She led the choirs to competition at Ridgeland High in Jasper Co. She was a member of the Choraliers.
