Althea Newman Obituary

NEWMAN, Althea Althea Lucinda Newman, known to many as Cindy, died in a Tampa hospital while undergoing a long-awaited double lung transplant on October 18, 2007. Cindy was born on September 16, 1950 in Dallas, Texas. Her parents were Curtis S. Christenson and Mary Frances (Irving) Christenson. When she was young, her family moved to Reynoldsburg, OH where she was raised. She was a1968 graduate of Reynoldsburg High School and a 1971 graduate of St John's Nursing Hospital in Springfield, IL. Cindy was a longtime resident of Folly Beach, SC where she met and married Charlie Newman. She was a nurse for many years before opening her own business, Suds-n-Surf Laundromat on Folly Beach. She was an active part of the local community and a friend to many people. She was known for her kindness, always willing to help others, and for her loving heart. She moved to Sugarloaf Key, FL in 1999 with longtime friend, Charles Osborne. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Newman, son-in-law Peter Ober, longtime friend Chas Osborne, and her parents Curtis and Mary Frances Christenson. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2007 at her home in Sugarloaf Key, FL. It was her wish to have her body cremated and her ashes spread in the water behind her home as living near the ocean was one of her passions for life. The memorial service will begin at 5:30 PM with the ashes being spread to coincide with the beautiful sunset at 5:38 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Condolences may be offered to the family at [email protected]. Cindy and I have been friends since
1980, she was the most giving person I have known in my lifetime. Cindy encouraged everyone who came to her with there problems, she was a mother to many of the kids growing up on Folly. I will miss one of my bestfriends, yet I am gratefuly for all the sweet memories of her.
Miss Wicky Wacky has gone on to a
simpler place, as she was simple person.
Again, I will miss you my dear friend.

Some 27 years ago, Cindy opened her house to a young couple just starting out. She shared her wisdom, her joys and her sadness as we all became close friends. Over the years, we lost touch. My heart breaks this day as I'm just hearing of this great loss. But knowing Cindy has moved on to a more peaceful place, free of pain and worries makes life easier to understand and accept. She was a wonderful mother to her beautiful daughter Alice and her handsome step son Charlie. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones.

Much love,
Randy & Julia Parker
