Alma Newman Obituary

Alma Newman GEORGETOWN, SC - Alma Marie Newman, age 97, passed away peacefully October 22, 2025. Marie was born on May 21, 1928 in Woodbury, Pennsylvania to John M. and Emma E. (Clapper) Lockard, the ninth of 13 siblings. She is survived by her sons, Barry Thomas (Diane) of Charleston, SC and David Newman (Sharon) of Conway, SC, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her husband, John Lee Newman and eleven of her siblings. She became a skilled cosmetologist and business owner in Bedford, PA before moving to King of Prussia, PA. Making a career change, she retired as a supervisor from a telephone sampling company. Following the passing of her husband, Marie moved to Conway, SC to be closer to her children. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Conway and did volunteer work until she was 90 years old. Marie was a sweet soul and was well thought of by all who knew her. She will be laid to rest with a graveside ceremony at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Hemingway, Sunday, October 26, 2025. Young Funeral Home of Hemingway is in charge of the arrangements.(843)933-4262.
