Alison was one of the most courageous people my husband and I had ever met. We followed her columns religiously, and are so terribly sad over the injustice (to her and to us all) of her passing at such a young age. Fiercely honest people like Alison do not come along very often. Our sincere condolences to her family and everyone close to her. We have all lost something very precious.

Alison will be sorely missed. In her presence, myself and so many other students felt free to analyze, to think creatively, and safe enough to venture being wrong. I am a better scholar/feminist/human being because of her.

Alison was a fun and fierce feminist. The force was always with her. I will miss her so much.

My husband and I moved to Charleston and began attending the Unitarian Church on occasion and finally made it to one of the welcome coffee meetings at Gage Hall. Alison was the first person to welcome us and we immediately fell into a wonderful deep conversation about our upbringings and the community here in Charleston. We also were introduced to Maybelle and were so happy to have met such wonderful, warm souls at this church. Just from the chance meeting we had with her this one time, I could tell how genuine and special she was, someone you don't meet everyday. Sending much love and prayers to her family right now. My heart is with you.

I will miss Alison, her writing and most of all, her compassionate humanity and her acknowledgment of real suffering with true grace and poise.

Brian and Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I had only met her a few times, but I continued to keep her in my thoughts and prayers throughout her treatments. My deepest condolences to you and all that knew and loved her.
