Alice Trethaway Obituary

Alice Trethaway suddenly went home to our Lord on August 8, 2005, at the age of 93, but by the grace of God, very peacefully in her home with family. She was born in Wilkes Barre, PA., moved to Mesa in 1960 from Albany, N.Y., where she happily lived, worked and worshipped for 45 years. Alice was the loving wife of the late Robert T. (Bob) Trethaway for 63 years, beloved mother of daughter Donna Warren and son-in-law William Warren of Mesa, and her late son, Thomas A. Trethaway, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Trethaway Fidler, also of Mesa. She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, and known as "GiGi" (Great Grandma) to 10 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, her son, her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. Alice spent her time in Mesa involved in real estate, first as the ultra efficient secretary for Key Realty of Mesa, until her husband opened his own real estate office, Bob Trethaway Realty, where they worked side by side until his death in 1991. Her son-in-law, William W. Warren acquired the business and she continued to work with him part time. She was a dedicated, loved and respected member of First United Methodist Church of Mesa and a core member of the "Ugly Quilt Club" where she made quilts for those in need every week. Alice is deeply loved by so many dear friends and her family. She has left her mark on all of our hearts. Alice enjoyed her life with the energy, enthusiasm and joyous spirit of someone half her age. Her sense of humor, her beautiful smile and her laughter will be missed by all of us who knew her. She was quick to laugh and quick to listen to anyone who needed her. Alice loved her family, her friends, her church, an organized office, a clean home and people! Alice: wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend will be missed by all of her family and friends. Our love for her is eternal. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Chapel, 15 E. 1st Ave., Mesa, AZ. Church services will follow celebrating her life beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the main sanctuary. Funeral arrangements provided by Bunkers Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that you make a donation with the notation "in memory of Alice Trethaway" to the First United Methodist Church Camp Scholarship Fund at 15 E. 1st Ave., Mesa, Arizona 85210. Our daughter Amy is married to Brian Trethaway and that is how we knew Gramma. She was at many of the family gatherings that we attended, and my husband and I grew very fond of her. She was an awesome lady, so full of life, and always laughing. We will miss her! I know for a fact that the family gatherings in the future will definately lack something, GRAMMA'S SMILE!

Yes, Alice is certainly in heaven with her family and the Lord. Alice was a loving dear person who we were proud to know. Her spirit and example of Christian living will live forever in all our hearts. Faith, Warren and Abby
