Alice Johnston Roland ALEXANDRIA, LA - Alice Johnston Roland, a native and longtime resident of Alexandria, LA, died peacefully Monday, September 10, 2012 in Jena, LA. She was 88. Mrs. Roland is survived by two sons, James W. Roland, Jr., and his wife Susan, of St. Francisville, and Robert T. Roland, and his wife Patti, of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Sally Roland Gilbert of Baton Rouge, and Ellen Henry, and her husband Phil, of Jena; thirteen grandchildren, Jason Roland and his wife Caryn, Ginny and Michael Gilbert, John, Jim, and Daniel Henry, Alice, Ariel, Laura, Jacob, Macon, Sarah, and Bobby Roland; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Will, and Laura Jett Roland; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Johnston and Mary Roland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty two years, James W. Roland; a daughter, Susan Alice Roland; sisters Hazel Johnston, Merle Jones, Audrey Johnston, Merice Grigsby, Frances Knoll Fontane, and Carolyn Moore; brothers, Julius Bascom Johnston, and Leonard Cooper Johnston, Jr.; and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cooper Johnston, of Alexandria. She was loved by all. Mrs. Roland was active for many years in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Caladium Garden Club; an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and member of the United Methodist Women. She also served on the boards of the Rapides Cemetery and Handiworks. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 9 am until services at 11 am, at First United Methodist Church, 2727 Jackson Street, Alexandria, LA, followed by interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4000 Monroe Hwy, Pineville, LA.
