Alice Herndon Obituary

Alice Elizabeth Tobias Herndon Mt. Pleasant - Alice Elizabeth Tobias Herndon, 100, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and formerly of Lancaster, Ohio. wife of the late Thomas Willard Herndon, died Thursday, December 28, 2017. Her funeral service will be held in Frank E. Smith Funeral Home in Lancaster, Ohio, at a later date. Burial will follow the service in Forest Rose Cemetery in Lancaster, Ohio. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 2, 2018, in J.HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Alice was born December 21, 1917, in Lancaster, Ohio, daughter of the late Lloyd D. Tobias and the late Vera Marie Turner Tobias. Her husband was a civil engineer with the Ohio Department of Highways and her grandfather, John Henry Tobias; father, Lloyd D. Tobias; and uncle, Roy Tobias were owners of Tobias Studio in Lancaster, Ohio. She was an elementary school teacher in Lancaster Public Schools, East School and later Tallmadge School. Alice was a member of the Maple Street United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Ohio, and a 75-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Millersport Chapter. She has been a resident in Mount Pleasant, SC, since 2005. She is survived by two daughters, Dixie Fanning (Wayne) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Cinda Herndon-King (Richard) of Fayetteville, GA; grandchildren, Thomas Tobias King of Knoxville, TN, and Katharine Rama King of Verona, WI; nieces and nephews, Lloyd Tobias, III (Fran), Greg Tobias (Donna), Jane Miller (Jim), Jim Tobias (Jane Graham) and Celeste Grider (Brian). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Lloyd D. (Toby) Tobias, Jr. (Jean). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maple Street United Methodist Church, 438 E.
