Alice DuTart Obituary

Alice Kelly West DuTart SUMMERVILLE - Alice Kelly West DuTart, 49, opened her eyes in heaven the morning of June 6, 2021. Alice was born in Portsmouth, VA, on December 25, 1971, as the daughter of Edward and Gwen West. She was a 1989 graduate of Summerville High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgetown College (KY) with a double major in English and History. She is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, Philip Pepper "Peppy" DuTart, III, and her children, Sarah (Zachary) DuTart Calhoun and Abigail DuTart. She is also survived by her loving sister, Julie (Fabio) West Torres; her nephews, Fabio Eduardo and Westley; and niece, Hailey Torres. Alice's heart for people extended from the classroom to the medical field to the church. Alice taught junior high students to love literature and writing at The Oaks Christian School for many years before changing careers to become a nurse (RN) for the vulnerable and seniors across the Lowcountry. Two of Alice's greatest joys were serving at the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center and ministering to the members of the special needs class at Crossroads Community Church. Alice also taught the Bible locally and abroad, traveling to Malta and the Dominican Republic to share the love of Christ. Alice will forever be remembered for her humility, her love for Christ, and her sensational sense of humor. "You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone" (2 Cor. 3:2). A memorial service for Alice is planned for Saturday, June 19th, at 3:00 PM at Crossroads Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center: lowcountrypregnancycenter.com. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

Peppy,
I'll always remember how much you absolutely loved her and how blessed you were to have such an amazing wife in this world. My heart breaks for you and your girls but I know one day you will be reunited in heaven. I pray that God gives you peace and understanding and comforts you. Thank you for being there when my husband passed away.

Alice will forever be etched in my heart, she encouraged Fawn and I to teach a class with her once! What laughter and fun we had spending time with her and getting to know her in that class! I am so sorry for the families loss, you will all be in my prayers!

Peppy, you were instrumental in guiding my brother Timmy and I in the path of faith as new Christians. Even though I have never met your wife I wanted to convey my deepest sympathy to you and your family as you grieve her loss as well as rejoice in the fact that she is with our Father. My mother and I have your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Alice earned her "wings" long before she entered Heaven. She inspired so many, and gave of herself whole heartedly. We are happy to have known and loved her, and so proud to call her our friend! Love you all!

Alice was a life changing friend to me. She loved unconditionally and let me be myself-usually making me laugh along the way. I will forever cherish her and pray for the wonderful DuTart, West and Torres families.

Alice was such a bright light in this world. Sara and I were just talking about how much fun Alice was in our 6th grade VBS class. Such sweet memories. All of you are in my prayers. We all know she is with God and no longer sick. But, the human side still hurts. Love and prayers to all. Mart White
