Alexander Stone Obituary

Alexander Stone, Jr. Isle of Palms - Alexander Donathan "Don" Stone Jr., 87, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 12, 2017. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Don was born to the late Alexander Donathan Stone, Sr. and Virginia Keith Chilton Stone. He was raised in Remington, Virginia where he stayed until entering The Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech. He graduated in 1951 with a BS in Electrical Engineering then he entered the US Air Force and served in the Korean war. Don met his wife, Nancy, and they were married in Belleville, Illinois, in 1952. Upon completion of his Air Force service, Don started his 20 year career with General Electric, which took he and Nancy and their three children back and forth across the country. Charleston, South Carolina captured Don and Nancy's hearts. In 1973 Don purchased a small business, which proved to be his spring board into his Real Estate career. Through Don's ownership of Island Realty since 1976, he became very active in the local, State, and National Associations of Realtors. He also devoted many hours to the Sertoma Club of Charleston. Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy; and their children, Alexander "Sandy" Donathan Stone III (Margaret), Melissa Crosby (David), and Virginia Crutchley (Todd); grandchildren, Alexander Donathan Stone IV (Allison), Virginia Caroline Hodges (Justin), Shelby Louise Dillon (Joseph), Robert Chilton Stone (Courtney), David Michael Crosby, Morgan Osbourne Crutchley, and Eric George Stone (Stephanie); and great-grandchildren, Mary Margaret Stone, Alexander Donathan Stone V, Rory E. Dillon, Griffin B.C. Hodges, and Whitman R. Stone. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Chilton Stone and Nathaniel Thomas Stone. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, South Carolina Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd. Ste L, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Beacon Hospice, 501 Wando Park Blvd. Ste 100, Mt. Thoughts and prayers to Momma Nancy and Sandy, Missy and Virginia and all of their family members. I have fond memories of everyone in Charleston and the many times my family and I were there. The Bates family was always treated well by Uncle Don and Aunt Nancy and our hearts are heavy that you have lost a great family man. I always think of y'all as family and always will. Sending love from New Jersey.
