Though we never met, I still feel a sense of loss, as the Doar and Lucas families have always been closely connected. You have my deepest sympathies.

Dear Sara and family,
I have thought about Alex, as well as you, quite a bit recently. I only heard Alex say good about others and treat others fairly. One tme, when we were leaving the airport after he had picked up Johnny and me, the woman at the gate was a former employee of his. It was crystal clear that she respected him, and he her. He knew things about her family and was so kind. That, for me, epitomized his essence as a gentleman. I loved him and respected him.

Dear Sara, Sandy, Marianne, Cathy, et al. . You have my deepest sympathies. I still see Uncle Alex in my mind's eye as being in his fifties, like the picture of him on the sailboat with me next to him (in my teens). I look more like him than I do my father, 'Johnny!' His calm demeanor is something I shall always strive to emulate. Much love, Jack

I did not know Uncle Alex, but my husband Charlie was very proud of both Uncle Alex and his own father, John "Johnny" Marion Lofton. I regret never having met him. My condolences.

For Sara, Sandy, Marianne and Cathy and all the Lofton family, My deepest condolences. The many glorious days sailing with Alex and long conversations with him and Sara over tea on the porch are treasured memories. I am grateful that I had re-newed visits with him in recent years that were especially meaningful. That Alex stayed my friend through the years meant more than I can say. He was a special man indeed. I am deeply saddened by Alex's passing. He had a profound influence on my life and 1 am forever grateful for that. He taught me how to be a leader without being a bully. I still look back at those days when I would spend the day on the sail boat. Sailing was so much like Alex - calm and serene. He is now in a good place!
