Alexander Costas Obituary

My heartfelt sympathy to the family of Alex. I remember him from Spartanburg High School as such a nice person. Sounds like he had a wonderful life and family and left a lot of good memories.

Mrs. Sophie, I don't know what to say, I don't think I need to. You and Mr.Alex knows what you and your family mean to me. My only regret....My son did not get to know such a precious man. N.Y. David called to tell me a few days ago but the message sounded like Alice. I had no idea. I'm so sorry!!!!!

We had the honor and privilege of caring for Mr Alex while he was a patient at Regency Hospital. We appreciate being able to spend time with you both. Even in this difficult time, you both have taught us all how to be loving spouses, caring friends and we are all (everyone of our staff memebers) better people for knowing Mr Alex. I don't think I have ever met a kinder, gentler soul than Mr. Alex. He always had a kind word, a smile, a hug or the time to stop and chat. Over the years that I have been priviledged enough to know Mrs. Sophie, Mr. Alex, Johnny, Crystal and Blakely, the love and support their family shows one another and all they hold dear has been an inspiration and encouragement to me. My family and I are so grateful for the time we were allowed to know him. You all know that our hearts and prayers are with you. My God wrap all of you in the comfort of His arms and ease your pain as only He can. We love you all.

Alex was truly an example of the unconditional love and acceptance available to those seeking a ray of hope through the path made plan by Bill W. I am grateful that 18 years later, I can still remember the lessons in life that he taught on Sunday Mornings by sharing his experience, strength and hope.

As stated in the Big Book paraphrased, “He shall be with us in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and we will surely meet again as we trudge the Road of Happy Destiny”.

Without Mr. Alex, Mrs. Sophia and The Gangplank my family would not be a family. My mother was a hostess and my father did everything from cutting grass to frying fish. They met at the Gangplank and began dating while working there, 7 years later they married and within 4 years my sister and I were born. As a child I remember eating at The Gangplank and getting hugs and kisses every time we came in from Mrs. Sophia and Mr. Alex. Thank you Mr. Alex for your love that you displayed to my family without you my family wouldn't be! You will be truly missed and loved always!

"Miss" Sophie, I wasa sadden to learn of the passing of Mr. Alex. You both hold a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you journey through life with the void his leaving has created but,I rejoice in knowing that he is at peace.
