Alexander Apostolou Obituary

Alexander N. Apostolou MT. PLEASANT - Alexander N. Apostolou passed peacefully from this life on February 17, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. Alex lived his amazing life in three acts. His first act was as a carefree child. He climbed trees, played baseball and soccer, camped in the nearby woods, and ran with his pals, Wes Bradley and Jay Lugar in his hometown of Roanoke, Virginia. But his happy childhood ended with the death of his mother, Harriet, from cancer when he was fifteen. He went on to be a diehard Bulldog at University of Georgia, where he first met his future wife and love, Harriet. He told her that she was special because she had his mother's name and the flame was lit between them. He also met his "brothers" at UGA, Jay Smith and John Bracy. His second act was as an adventurer. He journeyed across the globe, crossing continents and exploring new horizons. He lived in Greece and Turkey, went skydiving in Zimbabwe, hiked through Kenya and Tanzania, climbed mountains in Ecuador, and sailed through the Florida Keys. He even lived on a sailboat and later owned and ran Lite Affair Cafe, a bar in Charleston, SC. But most importantly, he found his Harriet again, who happened to live down the street from his bar in downtown Charleston. He married Harriet in 1999 and began perhaps his best and third act as a husband and father. Alex and Harriet built their family and life together with their daughter, Evy, and son, Niko, and made a home on the marshes of Charleston. He was devoted to his family and was a member of his Greek Orthodox Church community. He graduated from Campbell Law School earning his J.D. degree and returned to Charleston, SC, where he served as an Assistant Solicitor and then built his private law practice, Apostolou Law Firm, LLC. He helped every person who walked into his office. He treated his clients with respect and civility and worked tirelessly to provide them with the best legal counsel and advice. But he never abandoned his curiosity about people and places. He traveled with his family sharing his adventurous spirit taking them sailing in the British Virgin Islands, traveling the U.S. from Maine to California, New York, and of course, Athens, Ga., to see his beloved Bulldogs play "between the hedges." He also traveled to Greece many times, including his last trip, taking his family to Crete to celebrate Greek Easter one last time. He was loved by so many, but perhaps best by his wife of twenty-six years, Harriet Kohn Apostolou. He was treasured by his sisters, Karen Apostolou Gliarmis (Soc) of Wilson, NC, and Constance Apostolou Anastopoulo (Akim) of Charleston, SC, and legions of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alex was born in Roanoke, Va., on April 26,1966, to Alex N. Apostolou, Sr. and Harriet Vallas Apostolou. He was predeceased by his mother, Harriet, and his father, Alex, and his beloved grandmother, Pota Vallas. His life will be celebrated with a Greek Orthodox funeral at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Visitation with the family will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Building Fund, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC 29403. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Alex was a caring husband to Harriet and a loving father to Evy and Niko.
He was taken from his family and friends too soon. May God watch over
his family and keep them safe. Sending prayers and love to all.
