Alerta Knowland Obituary

Alerta Mary-Gale Knowland MT. PLEASANT - Alerta Mary-Gale Knowland, aged 98, passed on May 28, 2022 at Keil Health Care Center at Franke At Seaside in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Gale was born September 22, 1923 in Winnipeg Manitoba and moved to Clemson with her family in 1966. She was married for 55 years to Ralph E. Knowland, architect, professor and head of the Department of Building Science in the College of Architecture at Clemson University until his death in 1999. She is survived by 5 children: Lee Knowland (Dianna), Peter Knowland (Kathryn), Frances Porcher (John), Poll Knowland (Nancy) and Susan Harper (Danny), as well as 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. is handling Gale's cremation in Mt. Pleasant and Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home the burial beside her husband in Woodland Cemetery, Clemson, at a later date during a family gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gale's name to Lutheran Hospice Services of South Carolina at 1885 Rifle Range Road #46, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
