I just heard of Al Sanders passing tonight. Al was a good and trusted friend, mentor, scholar, and fellow fossil hunter.
He convinced me to donate our fossil finds from the Pee Dee for research and the publication of A Late Cretaceous and Reptile Assemblage from SC, USA.
So much fun and rewarding. Will cherish our time and experiences. Much love to you Al and Family.

When my son was 12 years old he called the museum to ask about some fossils he and his friend found in the Ashley River. That became over 30 years of knowing and loving two great people. Al and Randa. Al was a mentor and friend to my son and me. We both volunteered for Al and were privy to a warm, honest, adventurous, and funny man. He even named and classified my tiny lizard sculpture. Common name: Nail Toed Lizard. Scientific name: Pistachiosaurus ferrugipedia. Family: Pistachio sauridae. God bless Him and his beautiful family.

Al was a wonderful man, always willing to share his time and expertise to those of us who conducted research at the Charleston Museum. May God rest his soul and comfort those he loved.

Randa: I send you my condolences as I recall what an extreme pleasure it was to be Al's long-time computer tutor. I always admired his cheerful manner and wonderful sense of humor. Sean
