Albert Casale Obituary

Albert Vincent Casale CHARLESTON - Albert "Al" Vincent Casale, born July 31, 1958, passed peacefully on July 27, 2024, after a long and arduous battle following a massive stroke. Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania as the second youngest of five siblings, Albert later established lasting roots in his beloved city of Charleston, South Carolina, where he resided for over 40 years. As a police officer and detective for the Charleston, Goose Creek and Berkeley County Sheriff's Departments, Albert continued a tradition of public service that began during his time at The Citadel. Following his graduation in 1980, he served in the United States Marine Corps for 9 years and was stationed across the globe in places such as Japan, South Korea, Honduras, the Philippines, and, in true Marine fashion, several other destinations that he seldom mentioned and never boasted about. Whether it was abroad or domestically, Al brought an infectious, relaxed, and subtle charm that was immediately felt by all whenever he entered a room. Whether it was fishing off the coast of the Carolinas, deep frying whiskey-injected Butterball turkeys with his family at Thanksgiving or driving long trips in his RV with his dog riding shotgun, Al's legacy is one defined by bettering the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Amongst his many professional accomplishments throughout his career, in 2021 Al notably helped to solve a 17-year cold murder case, bringing a criminal to justice and closure to the victim's family, further cementing his legacy as a respected defender of truth, justice and the American way, and his service as a pillar of his community. Albert Casale is survived by his brothers, Henry and David; sisters, Jeanne and Maria; four nieces, five nephews, seven great- nephews, and his cherished dog, Anastasia. He will be buried at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, next to his dear predeceased parents, Henry and Genevieve Casale. A celebration of Al's life is planned for the near future in Greensburg, PA. He will be greatly missed, but his magic and memory will live on, always.

I was a 1980 classmate and fellow Marine with Al. I did not know him well, but always found him to be a solid guy during our Citadel days. Reading all of the remarks it is obvious that he lived a life of service and left this life much too early, but now will live in eternal life.

Al and I were police officers at the same time, but worked for different departments. I got to know him pretty well over the years and after I left law enforcement, I would see him from time to time since we shared the same barbershop. He was a nice guy who always treated me well, with respect and dignity,as a former brother in law enforcement and a friend. I.
was deeply saddened to hear of Al's passing,But I do feel fortunate that I was able to know one of the good guys.
Rest in peace my friend.

Al and I were the best of friends. He is my twins godfather, we were room mates during our CCPD days, and remained best of friend throughout our stay at CCSO. Our time was spent in the various areas we served; SWAT, Narcotics, Patrol, Special Operation´s, to fishing, grilling, and just bring ourselves. He is missed already. Sleep on my brother, see you in the morning! Herb.

I met Al at the beginning of our Sophomore year at The Citadel at a Citywide Baptist Student Union event in downtown Charleston. He was also with Roy Leeds, a fellow R company Brother. I was in Band company. We became fast friends and enjoyed each’s company until graduation. I went into the Navy, Al the Marines and Roy the Army. We may or not see one another at reunions, but we would always try to. I am heartbroken at this news. Al was an Incredible Brother and Betsy and I will truly miss him! All Our Love to his family

My best memory of my cousin Albert was spending time with him and his family during the summer time at their home in South Greensburg. My grandfather (his Uncle Julian) would take me there to spend some time during the summer. Albert was a few years older and taught me a lot of things and was like a big brother to me. I always knew that Albert was a man of great integrity and he would be extremely successful in life Unfortunately, I had lost touch after moving to Michigan in 1984. My deepest condolences to Henry, David, Jeanne, and Maria and all his friends and coworkers.

Al was my partner when I worked district 8 for Charleston County, but he became my longtime friend of 30+ years. When I was involved in a critical incident Al was ALWAYS there for me in my dark times, he never let me down or let me fall by the wayside...he was my HERO. I'll have to rely on the wisdom of his conversations and heartfelt words he gave me for assurance now. How truly blessed I am to have had Al an important part of my life, he helped me to survive. I never missed an opportunity to tell him how much his friendship and support meant to me, but I have to say it one more time...thanks for everything Al, I couldn't have made it without you, I love you.
