Alan Webb Obituary

Alan George Webb CHARLESTON - Alan George Webb passed away suddenly on October 21, 2017, at his home in Charleston, SC. Alan was born in Lexington, KY, to Ross and Ruth Webb. He moved with his family to Rock Hill, SC, just in time to start 1st grade. He graduated from Northwestern High school in 1979 and played basketball and tennis for the Trojans. Alan then studied history at the College of Charleston, graduating in 1983 with a degree in history. A few months before college graduation, Alan was in an auto accident and became critically ill from an infection related to wounds. We very nearly lost him but fortunately he was able to recover and be with us another 34 years. Alan needed some PE credits to graduate so his last semester he took ballet. For those of you know Alan, this seems a little hilarious. Shopping for size 13 ballet slippers was a big challenge! After college Alan went to work at Kiawah Island with his friend Tim Williams. This started his career in the food and beverage business. Alan then worked as a manager at A.W. Shucks and Tommy Condon's in Charleston for a while. Alan worked at the Mills House Hotel in Charleston from 1991-2013. His job during this time including catering director and food and beverage manager. He loved his time at the Mills House and always felt like his coworkers were his second family. In 1994 Alan married Rhonda Bolender and in the process acquired his beloved daughter Michelle. Tragically Rhonda passed away in 2001. Alan loved being on the water and especially sailing. He also enjoyed cycling and listening to music. He was a loving parent to many canine children during his lifetime. Alan was famous for cooking up gourmet feasts for visitors. Alan was a hardworking, kind and generous man. All of his friends and family know that he placed the needs of others ahead of his own. Alan is survived by his daughter Michelle Schneider and her husband Robert Reaves, granddaughters Meila and Maya Reaves, of Marietta, GA, his mother Ruth Webb of Talent, OR, and his brother Eric Webb and nephew Alexander Webb of Ashland, OR, and niece Mariah Fielder of Salt Lake City, UT. Funeral arrangements though Charleston Cremation Center. Funeral service will take place in the church garden of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 144 Caldwell St., in Rock Hill, at 3:00 pm on Sunday October 29, 2017.
