Adrienne Dorn Obituary

Adrienne Nelson Dorn PORT ORANGE, FL - Adrienne Nelson Dorn, 52, formerly of Charleston, passed away July 15, 2014, at her home in Port Orange, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert G. and Rita L. Nelson, and her brother George Michael Nelson. She is survived by her sisters, Kathleen (Dale) Stoin, of Columbus, OH, Sheila (Bill) Carroll, of Cross, SC, Michelle Palastrant of Goose Creek, SC; and her brother, Albert G. (Kristin) Nelson, Jr., of Greensboro, NC; and eleven nieces and nephews. The family would also like to recognize Sherry Munn, her best friend from childhood; and her late husband Rusty Haynes' mother, Mary Lou "Mamie" Black, whom she dearly loved. She also loved her loyal companion Shelly, her golden Lab. She had a 28-year career with the Post and Courier. At the time she retired she had become a member of the design team. She loved her work and spoke often about it and the people she worked with and missed. It must be said that through much of her life, Adrienne struggled with some personal and health issues which at times overshadowed her many good qualities. Sadly, during the last few months of her life she was deeply troubled by the uncertainty of a society she saw as violent and out of control. However, those who knew and loved her will remember best her sweet and loving nature, her delightful sense of humor, her amazing energy, and her ability to be incredibly charming and gracious. She was a beautiful woman who loved all the "girlie stuff" and looked much younger than her years. Although she had no children of her own, she loved children and they readily responded to her warm-hearted interest. Like her other sisters, she loved spending time at the beach with a good book and someone to chat with, and she loved to travel. She was a very unselfish and generous person who was always willing to help out. Our little sister will be greatly missed. There will be no formal funeral services. The family will hold a private memorial for Adrienne. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Adrienne's death brings great sadness. She was a good friend to me in a very difficult time. Mercurial, talented and funny, she was a remarkable person. May she find peace.

Prayers to the family...Adrienne was a kind person to work with and I am sorry to hear about her passing

July 23, 2014

Adrienne and her family and friends are in my prayers tonight and will remain there in the days ahead. I worked with Adrienne at the paper and was privileged to work with her when she was a page designer for the Food section and I was the food editor. She made those first few months easier when I was still finding my way. Adrienne always had a smile and a kind word and had so many good ideas to share. I hope and believe she has found peace.
