ADA FRANCESCHINA FIDALIC (Formerly Foresta)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ada Franceschina Fidalic (née Foresta), age 93, on September 20, 2025, at St. Joseph's Care Group in the Hospice Unit. She was born on July 30, 1932, in Grimaldi, Italy, and was raised there before migrating to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario, Canada, in 1958.
Ada married Aldo Fidalic on August 1, 1959, and together they raised two children, Albert Fidalic (Sharon Fidalic) and Mike Fidalic. Ada was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, and is survived by her two children, her grandchildren Francesca and Aj Fidalic, and her sister Vanda Bossio, along with many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Aldo Fidalic, as well as her brothers Vincenzo, Emilio, and Joe Foresta, and sisters Ida Pemi, Lidia Lorenzetti, Maria Clemenza, and Esterina Ferrari, Ada was one of nine siblings. She was also predeceased by her parents, Dominic and Michelina Foresta.
Ada was a woman of extraordinary strength, resilience, and determination. At the young age of four, she tragically lost her mother. In her early twenties, she bravely moved to a new country, where she didn't speak the language and faced the challenge of starting over without knowing how to read or write. Through hard work and perseverance, Ada taught herself how to understand math and English, and although her English was broken, she was always able to communicate effectively and connect with others.
She spent many years working as a custodian in the residences at Lakehead University and took on various other jobs in Thunder Bay to support her family. Throughout her life, Ada was known for her work ethic and her ability to overcome obstacles.
In her earlier years, Ada loved going out dancing with her husband, Aldo, enjoying the music and the rhythm of the dance floor. Later in life, she found joy in spending time at the casino with her friends, where she cherished their company and the fun they shared together. Ada also loved traveling to Florida to visit her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. These visits were filled with special memories that she treasured deeply.
At home, Ada took great pride in caring for her garden, which brought her peace and joy. She was also well known for her delicious home-cooked meals, especially her sauce and hot bread, which she loved preparing for family and friends. Ada was always willing to help others and never said no when it came to supporting her friends and family.
Her faith was central to her life, and she was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, attending mass every Sunday. Ada's strong belief in her faith guided her through many trials and gave her peace.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and support Ada received from St. Joseph's Hospice Care and the Unit 2C Cardiac and Stroke Unit at Thunder Bay Regional Science Centre. We would also like to thank Bayshore Home Health for their care and a special thank you to Charlotte for her love and dedication to Ada over the past year.
Ada will be remembered for her incredible strength, deep faith, and unwavering love for her family. May she rest in peace.
