A. Cooke Thomas
A. Cooke Thomas, 98, formerly of Phoebe Terrace, Allentown, died May 5, 2012 at the Phoebe Home. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Thomas with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage until her death in 2009. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Walter C. and Grace L. Thomas. A graduate of the Baltimore public schools, he received his bachelors degree from The John Hopkins University. He was associated nearly 50 years with PPL Corp., retiring in 1983 as a Manager-Regulatory Affairs. Prior to moving to Allentown in 1955, he served for 25 years as an assistant to the organist and choirmaster of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Baltimore. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps. during WWII. He was a life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Retired Officers Assoc., Engineers Club of the Lehigh Valley, the Engineering Society of Baltimore, and The John Hopkins Alumni Assoc.
