A. Barnes Obituary

A. Parker Barnes, Jr. COLUMBIA, SC - A. Parker Barnes, Jr. of Beaufort died in Columbia on June 7, 2025, under the loving care of his family. He was born on August 21, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Albert Parker Barnes, Sr. of Walterboro and the late Dolores Marie Kennedy of New Orleans. Parker married Angela Bultman in 1970, and they began their lives together in Beaufort where Parker worked as a trial attorney in private practice. In 1972, Parker and Angela welcomed their daughter, Bartlette, to their family, and they had a son, also named Parker, in 1975. Bartlette and Parker were blessed to have Big Parker (as he became to be known with two Parkers in the house) as their father. Big Parker was devoted to his family and filled their childhood with fun memories and love. He was dedicated to teaching his children important values, work habits, and life lessons. His classrooms included rivers, boats, beaches, hunting clubs, swamps, and duck blinds, and his lectern was usually at the head of the dining room table. He fully supported his family with whatever was needed, and his children always had his strong hands and mind to guide them. When Parker was very young, his family returned to Walterboro. Parker grew up in Walterboro with a very close group of friends that maintained their close friendship and brotherhood throughout their lives. Their stories are countless and filled with laughter. To say that Parker was an avid sportsman is a severe understatement. He was an extremely skilled woodsman, turkey caller, duck caller, and he was an even better shot and marksman. Parker did not have an equal when it came to the art of hunting, and hunting was a passion he enjoyed his entire life. Parker graduated from the University of South Carolina and was a proud member of the SAE fraternity. He developed very close relationships with his collegiate brothers and friends that also lasted for his lifetime. The college stories are also countless and filled with laughter. Parker graduated law school at the University of South Carolina and began dating Angela, whom he would marry. After law school, Parker clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Charles Simons in Charleston. Perhaps the only place Parker was more proficient than the woods was the courtroom. He was a fierce advocate, and he enjoyed helping people when they needed it the most. Parker's advocacy skills were recognized by his clients and organizations, such as Martindale-Hubble, the SC Association for Justice, and the SC Judicial Conference. He was also a member of the Jean Ribaut Society and a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. Left to cherish his memories and recount his incredible life are his loving, devoted, and grateful wife; daughter; son-in-law (Kirk); son; daughter-in-law (Allison); and three granddaughters, Campbell, Ford, and Hannah Parker. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the loving care that Sabrina Jacobs and Angela Hicks provided to Parker and his family. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 13, at the churchyard at St. Helena's Anglican Church, 507 Newcastle Street, Beaufort, SC 29902.

I worked for Parker for about 3 years. I loved this guy. He was funny, smart, and one hell of an Attorney. He would widdle during depositions not saying a word, when it was his turn, he turned the room upside down with his questions. Others in the room thought he didn't know what was going on. He had a reputation that will go on forever. There was no other Attorney like him. He loved his family and his hunting buddies. Parker Barnes was a person I'll never forget. He will be sorely missed. May your memories of him, keep his spirit alive in your hearts.

I am sad to hear of Parker´s passing. We worked together on many cases when I was in the insurance industry while living in Beaufort. He was a good attorney and an even kinder man. My deepest condolences to his wife, children, family and friends.
