Sentrial Joy Obituary

Sentrial Melvin Joy entered this life on December 15, 1951. He was the first child born to the late Joseph "Joe" Joy, Jr. and Sylvestre Adams Vaughan, in Charleston, SC. He was the grandson to Joseph "Jack" Joy, Helen W. Joy, Granville and Ruth W. Adams who preceded him in death. He was the eldest brother to Penelope "Nep", Barry (deceased), Kevin, and Omar. As a young boy, Sentrial loved school. He completed his elementary education at Liberty Hill Elementary and his high school education at Bonds-Wilson High School. He furthered two years of his education at Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. He then joined the United States Army where he faithfully served his country stateside and abroad. "Sent" as he was affectionately called, accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior while attending Charity Baptist Church on Liberty Hill, North Charleston, S.C. under the pastorate of his late great-uncle, Reverend Doctor Benjamin Whipper, Sr. Sentrial was united in holy matrimony to Mona Scott in 1971. They were blessed with two daughters, Renarda Joy and Daria Joy Jones. After leaving the military, Sentrial relocated to Brooklyn, New York and began his 21-year career with the NYC Department of Human Resources Administration on February 1, 1988. He worked as an Administrative Job Opportunity Specialist and later Director until his retirement on Feb 1, 2009. While living in New York, Sentrial met Nadra Haywood in 1985 and on April 25, 1997, they became husband and wife. Their union was blessed with two children: Timothy "Mister" Haywood-Joy and Morgan Haywood-Joy. Sentrial loved traveling with family and visiting relatives in Florida, Los Angeles, and Michigan. Sentrial has touched the lives of so many. He enjoyed driving his dad and grandparents to Atlantic City. During his later years he enjoyed watching YouTube with all the pranks and he loved Southern Soul Music, his favorite artist was King George. His two favorite desserts were his Mother's Banana Pudding and the other was Grandma Ruth's Pineapple Coconut Cake... when he learned that his sister Deb could bake it, that was all she wrote. Deb would bake that cake for him whenever she was able to. On May 27, 2025, Sentrial M. Joy departed this earthly life.
