A good name is better than precious ointment. And the day of death than the day of one's birth"…
Ecclesiastes 7:1
"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants" Psalm 116:15
Today we celebrate the home going service for Ms. Ruth Ann Richardson Morgan, daughter of the late Abraham and Sarah Richardson. She was born on December 8, 1943, in
Moncks Corner, SC. She departed this life on January 22, 2026, at the age of 82.
Ruth Ann, as she is so affectionately known to family and friends, grew up in the wonderful community of "Kitfield" with her 5 brothers and sisters, Elijah, Benjamin, Julia, Carol and Anthony. The siblings attended Berkeley Training High School, where she received her high school diploma in 1962. Upon graduation, Ruth Ann moved to Newark, New Jersey to join her two older brothers who had already moved from South Carolina to Newark a few years prior. She started her career in the industrial field and soon realized that she wanted to pursue her dreams of being an educator. She enrolled in Essex County College (formerly known as Essex Business College), where she received her associate's degree in business. While working as a bank teller, she enrolled at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, where she received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
Ruth Ann Richardson became Ruth Ann Morgan when she joined in Holy Matrimony to Joseph Morgan, of Wilson, North Carolina, in 1978. To this union, one daughter, Moniek was born one year later.
For the next 24 years, she worked as an elementary school teacher, starting at Louise A Spencer and then transferring to Roberto Clemente School in Newark, until her retirement in 2008. Ruth Ann continued living in East Orange, New Jersey while assisting in raising her grandson, Xavier, until she finally moved back to her renovated childhood home in
Moncks Corner, South Carolina in 2014.
Ruth Ann's spiritual journey started at the knees of her praying mother, Sarah, where she learned about the Bible and how to pray. Ruth Ann was also a part of the "Joy Hill" classroom, where she learned the Catechisms and Commandments. She attended Wesley United Methodist Church until the end of high school.
While living in New Jersey, she attended St. James AME Church in Newark, later joining Zion Pentecostal Faith Church, under the leadership of Mother Aileen Stewart. After the death of Mother Stewart, Ruth Ann took her spiritual talents to Full Gospel Deliverance Center, under the leadership of Pastor Hubert Williamson, where she remained until moving back to
Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Once in Moncks Corner, Ruth Ann became a faithful member of Powerhouse of Deliverance Apostolic Church, Inc in Walterboro, South Carolina under the leadership of Pastor Katrena Johnson, until her death.
Ruth Ann was a strong, independent, hardworking woman who absolutely loved the Lord, loved teaching and loved her family and friends. She will be remembered for always sharing a laugh especially with her sister, Julia, whom both was affectionately nicknamed "Chessie Cats" at a young age, for laughing at times when they shouldn't. Ruth Ann will also be remembered for her infamous baked chicken that has been a traditional requested dish at family gatherings.
Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her two brothers: Elijah Richardson and Anthony Richardson.
