Joe Eddie Brunt passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
He was born September 23, 1939 in
Freeport, Texas to Granville Vernile "Joe" and Eddie Mae Wilson Brunt. He was raised in West Columbia, graduating from Columbia High School in 1957. He attended Texas A&M University and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. Gig 'Em! After graduating with a BS in chemical engineering in 1961, he worked at Alcoa in Point Comfort. A few months later he met schoolteacher Kay Magness at a Sunday School party; they were married on April 12, 1963.
The newlyweds moved to Austin where Joe earned his MBA from the University of Texas. They then moved to Lake Jackson where Joe began a long career with the Dow Chemical Company. His work took the family to Midland, Michigan where they made great friends, especially those from the Jaycees and their dinner club. Sixteen years later, Dow relocated him to the Houston area, and they resided in Missouri City. Joe then was vice president at Destec Energy. After his career at Dow and Destec, he taught management at Sam Houston State University.
In 1999 Joe and Kay moved to College Station to retire in Aggieland. They regularly attended plays, concerts, and speaking events and held season tickets to Aggie tennis, basketball, and football. Joe and Kay also traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and dozens of countries on six continents. They even lived briefly in Belgium in 2002.
Joe was a born-again Christian who loved Jesus and served the Lord faithfully. Wherever he lived, he attended church. Among those he attended the longest were First Baptist Church West Columbia, First Baptist Church Midland, Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Sugar Land, and Central Church in College Station.
He most enjoyed watching Aggie sports, both in person or on television, and spending time with his family. He will be missed by his family and all who called him friend.
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Isaiah 40:31
