Helen Singletary Obituary

Helen Woodard Singletary, 80, of Goose Creek, a retired Wages and Classification Specialist for the Charleston Naval Shipyard died Thursday morning at her daughter's residence. Her memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon, May 31, 2025, in St. John's Baptist Church, Pinopolis. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Singletary was born December 17, 1944, in Moncks Corner, SC, a daughter of Cole Blease Woodard and Pansy Brunson Woodard. She was a member of St. Johns Bethel Baptist Church where she was active in cooking meals for church functions. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to yard sales, trips to the mountains, and flower gardening. Mrs. Singletary was a talented seamstress that did cross-stitch, sewed her grandchildren's smocked clothing. Her and her husband together would host big fish frys and BBQs feeding all their family and friends. After her retirement she became a full-time caretaker for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nanny". She always had treats at her house for the grandchildren when they stopped by and would teach them to play cards. Her favorite game was rummy which she was good at cheating and changing the rules on to win. Mrs. Singletary loved her husband and her family, but she especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the widow of Ubie David Singletary, Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Malinda Smith and her husband Bill and Malissa Flynt and her husband Joe all of Summerville; a sister, Hazel Wyndham and her husband Furman of Macedonia; a brother, C. B. Woodard of Pinopolis; four grandchildren, Brandy Echeandia and her husband Chris, Kristan Smith, Lindsay Brodsky and her husband Eddie, Hannah Flynt, and David "A.J." Flynt; four great grandchildren, Matthew Echeandia, Caitlyn Echeandia, Jackson Brodsky, and Birdie Brodsky.
