Gerald Callahan Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) Richard Callahan (93): his heart briefly stopped for the first time in 1953 when he was introduced to his future beloved wife, Alice (Miller) Callahan, of Charleston SC, instantly falling in love with the southern beauty. On April 13th, 2026 his heart stopped beating for the final time when he was called by his Maker to rejoin her. Born in Chicago on December 13, 1932, he was predeceased by his wife, Alice, his parents, Frank J. Callahan and Evelyn Marie (Olson Callahan) Brincheck, his twin sisters Kay (Callahan) Bokor and Pat (Callahan) Schofield and his youngest son Glenn.

Outside of his marriage, his greatest joys in life were the birth of his two sons, Steven and Glenn, and his grandchildren, Sean and Shae Marie. Many additional joyous moments were provided by his extended family, Trevor, Laura, Ainsley and Trevor's two sons, Tyler and Connor. And he felt a deep love and gratitude for the Kane family: Mike, Kathy, Julie and Steve, and for his dearest surviving friends, Bob Moss and Bill Yaun.

In the 1950's Jerry served in the Navy, earned a college degree from Stetson University and coached the College of Charleston basketball team. He then had a 50+ year career in the insurance industry, retiring from Merrill Lynch as VP of Financial Planning and Insurance. He stayed active in retirement, working as an adjunct professor in the USC School of Business, golfing with the "Old Guard Senior Golfing Group," and even serving as a substitute teacher in Lexington District One into his eighties. Also in his eighties he wrote and published the book titled His Miracles and Ours!

A small graveside service will be held at Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Dr, North Charleston SC 29405 Wednesday, April 22nd at 2:00PM. A celebration of life will take place at Union United Methodist Church, 7582 Woodrow St, Irmo SC 29063 the afternoon of May 9th, 2026. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the building fund at Union United Methodist Church, 7582 Woodrow St, Irmo, SC 29063
