Dorothy Barnes Obituary

She measured life in careful drops, clear liquids trembling in glass, watching reactions unfold with the patience of someone who trusted unseen processes. In the quiet hum of her lab, she balanced elements and equations, turning mystery into meaning, transforming the invisible into something understood. But when the coat came off and the day released its grip, she traded beakers for blossoms, steel counters for soft soil, and stepped into her truest experiment.

On Thursday February 12, 2026; God in His infinite wisdom, called daughter Mrs. Dorothy Barnes, 79, of North Charleston, South Carolina from labor to reward.

Dorothy "Ditty" Barnes graduated from Livingston College majoring in Chemistry. She has had distinguished careers as a teacher in both Philadelphia and Atlanta. Her main career was as a chemist for both Dupont and Union Carbide. Mrs. Barnes was always active in the church and volunteering, something she inherited from her mother Marie. Gardening, crotecheting and surprisingly watching the Lord of the Rings movies brought her joy.

Being survived by her son Ronald "Romance" Barnes, her three granddaughters; Léla, Allira, and Téana. She is also survived by two great grandsons; Nao and Ezra and by her brothers Tim and Lamar Waring, her sister Ella Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews and step children Troy, Kimberly, Rodney and Todd by her former husband. A host of cousins and friends.

Mrs. Barnes lived in many states North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia. She has traveled outside the country such as Spain and Africa. She loved to talk and willing to have a conversation with anyone. She will be missed very much.
