William Long Obituary
AIKEN - WILLIAM GERVIS "BILL" LONG, 94, husband of the late Iris Jean Yazel Long, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Trinity on Laurens.
A native of Rock Hill, SC, Bill was a son of the late William Henry and Carnell Jennings Long. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps. Bill moved to Aiken in 1953 to work for DuPont at the Savannah River Site, retiring after 36 years. He was a long-time member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he was very active as a Deacon and sound technician among other things until his health prevented him to be. He was a member of Gideon International. Bill was an avid collector of model and toy trains.
Survivors include his children, Janice Long Berryhill (Randy), Mooresville, NC, Barry W. Long (Jane), Charlotte, NC, Sherrie Long Harville (Billy) Metter, GA; grandchildren, Chad McGahee, Ashley McGahee, Kirbi McGahee Ratner (Aaron), Joanna Long (Courtney), Benjamin Long (Millie), Taylor Berryhill, Lauren Berryhill; great-grandchildren, Kaleb McGahee, Jaden Mc Gahee, Zane McGahee, Kinley Ratner, Ambree Ratner, Brewton Ratner, Penelope Long.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning, January 28th beginning at 10 o'clock at Shiloh Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 o'clock with The Rev. Chris Masters officiating. Interment will be in Southlawn Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Shiloh Baptist Church, 3925 Shiloh Church Rd., Aiken, SC 29805
