William Gunnells Obituary

Mr. William Ralph Gunnells, 83, of North Augusta, SC, beloved husband of fifty years to Marie Whittle Gunnells, entered into rest in the comfort of his home on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
Born in Abbeville County, SC, and a resident of Aiken County, SC, since 1955, he was a son of the late James William Gunnells and the late Ellen Crawford Page. A graduate of Ware Shoals High School, he furthered his education by graduating from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. He began his career in law enforcement in 1963 and rose through the ranks. He was honored to serve the citizens of Aiken County as Sheriff from 1980 until his retirement in 1984. Mr. Gunnells was also involved in auto sales all of his life. He was a member of Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church. He enjoyed fishing, remodeling, working on cars and camping.
In addition to his wife and parents, family members include his children and their spouses, Pam and Dale Lamb, Kim and Danny Anderson, Perry Gunnells, Mikey and Janet Gunnells, Bonnie and Terry Taylor, Bobbie Williams, the late Ricky Gunnells and the late Karen Enlow, siblings, Sheila Bannister and Karen Richardson, grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Christa Anderson, Lance and Paige Durden, Jeffery and Shannon Anderson and Lauren and Ben Hanna, Matthew and Sara Anderson, Wil and Allye Lamb and Jennifer and Shawn Slawson, twelve great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Jake.
The family will greet friends on Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 7 until 9 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022, 2 o'clock at Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church, Bath, SC. Brother Bill Branch will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Justin Anderson, Lance Durden, Jeffrey Anderson, Ben Hanna, Matthew Anderson and Wil Lamb.
If so desired, memorials be made to Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Sheriff Gunnells. I worked with him as a Deputy and then Investigator. Always enjoyed talking with him. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
