William Dill Obituary
Aiken - Mr. William R. Dill, Jr., 75, loving companion of Sherry Siegmund Norton, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
Bill was born in Greenville, SC, the son of the late William Rowley Dill, Sr., and the late Kate Greer Dill. He was reared in Greenville and graduated from Parker High School. Bill attended Clemson University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked in South Carolina and then North Carolina for a total of nineteen years before returning to South Carolina to work at the Savannah River Site for 24 years before retirement in 2012. Bill and his ex-wife Lorraine raised two children, a son Brian and a daughter Karen. In earlier years, he enjoyed sailing and bicycling. After becoming single and meeting Sherry, the new couple took several vacations traveling in the western US, Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii. Some were hiking vacations and some were leisurely bus tours. Later, Bill and his son Brian enjoyed attending Clemson football games and USC Aiken baseball games. Also, going out to the movies was a favorite pastime. Bill was a mild mannered but social and friendly person who also enjoyed simply staying home.
He is survived by Sherry Norton of their home in Aiken; his son Brian Dill of Lexington, SC; and his sister Kitty (Don) Thielke, both of Greenville, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Dill and his nephews Chris Thielke and Russell Thielke.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 23, 2022 from 1:00PM - 2:00PM at The Historic George Funeral Home, 211 Park Avenue, SW. Graveside services to follow at 2:30PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2648 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Aiken Regional Medical Centers, or contact USC Aiken to contribute to a nursing scholarship fund. Bill wishes to thank everyone at ARMC for all the fine care given to him during various illnesses.

Sherry, in going through my SRS memorabilia today (7/20/22), I ran across an e-mail from Bill in February 2003 congratulating me on my imminent retirement from SRS and offering words of wisdom and encouragement. His words stayed with me for many months as a beacon to what the future could bring. Now, 19 years later, I wanted to get back to him with thanks for the seeds of optimism he planted, for my retirement has been filled with immeasurable joy. He requested I get back him occasionally, but that request faded in my mind until I was reminded today. In searching the Internet on his name, I was saddened to find his obituary, so I won't be able to update him. Though I barely knew Bill, he had a most positive effect on my life, and this is the only way I know to acknowledge it. Best wishes to you as one who loved him.

Sherry and Brian, I am so sorry for your loss. Bill was a really nice person and in the past we all spent many days biking and just enjoying life. May God give you peace and comfort you.

Aunt Sherry, I'd like to extend my condolences to you, during this time of loss. Bill was an extremely genuine person, and will be extremely missed. You're in my thoughts and meditations s, during this time of loss. Always know that, I myself, as well as my siblings, and Mom, are all there for you, during this time of the need of all of your loved ones' support
