AIKEN, SC - Wilbur L.
Garrick, 95, born November 27, 1919, in Statesboro, GA passed away peacefully on November 19, 2015.
He was the son of the late Adam B. Garrick and Effie Ethridge Garrick. He was the eldest of six children. Mr. Garrick was a graduate of Brooklet High School in Georgia and was a member of the Georgia National Guard. He was called to active duty in 1940 and was sent overseas to Guadalcanal in 1942. He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in 1944 and assigned to the 10th Armored Division and sent to France in 1944 where he fought in Patton's Third Army in the Battle of the Bulge. In 1950, he was called back into active duty in Korea where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He served his country courageously and received the Bronze Star in Germany and an Oak Cluster in Korea. After severing all ties with the military in 1953, he worked for DuPont at the Savannah River Site for 30 years. After retiring he enjoyed RV camping with the Happy-Go-Lucky Camping Club. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church.
He was married to his late wife, Bonnie Hodges Garrick for 66 years. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Garrick; grandson, Travis (Stefanie) Crain; and great-grandson, Trevor Crain. He is also survived by an extended loving family.
He was kind and wise. He always had a twinkle in his eye. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was grateful for the simple pleasures that life offered. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Howard officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Millbrook Baptist Church Building Fund, 176 E. Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.
