Warren Murff Obituary

Warren C. 'Nick' Murff
AIKEN - Warren C. "Nick" Murff died on November 2, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born on November 18, 1927, Nick was the son of Warren Clyde and Ida McClain Murff of Donalds, South Carolina.
He graduated from Ware Shoals High School and received his BA degree from Erskine College. After teaching for five years in Great Falls and Honea Path, South Carolina, Nick began employment on March 24, 1954 in Ware Shoals, SC with Riegel Textile Corporation in the Accounting Department. After achieving a series of advancing positions with the company in Ware Shoals and Trion, Georgia, he was promoted to the position of Vice-President/Controller of the Convenience Products Division in 1976. He was a loyal employee. Nick, along with three other family members, were recognized for a combined 149 years of employment at Riegel Textile Corporation.
After retirement Nick spent many hours working in the yard. He found great pleasure in seeing a garden emerge from his hard work. He did not have many "outside" interests and home and family were important to him. He was always glad to be home after any trip. His greatest source of pride was his son, Scott, admired for his innate goodness and simplicity of character, his talent and scholastic achievements and later for his parenting skills matched by those of his wife, Susan. Any interest in past pursuits was surpassed by the pleasure of spending time with his grandchildren who brought countless hours of joy and added a completeness to life.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, June Hodges Murff, one son, Scott (Susan) and two grandchildren, Emory and Walker of Phoenix Arizona, three nephews - Jim, Bob and Ken Drake and two nieces - Candy George and Mindy Oltman.
In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by three brothers - James Howard Drake, Ralph Drake, and Fred Murff and two sisters - Cecil Gable and Genie Latimer.
Nick's life exemplified many of the character traits the City of Aiken embraces - Honesty - Integrity - Kindness - Sincerity - Loyalty - Compassion. Simply stated "He was a good man." He will be missed.
The family wishes to thank Glenda Keough who came to us as a caregiver but became so much more - a compassionate friend and companion.
The family will gather at a later date for a time of remembrance and a celebration of his life.
Memorials may be sent to the Aiken Partnership Board, c/o USC Aiken to the June H. Murff Endowment for the Humanities, 471 University Parkway, Aiken SC 29801 or the CSRA Parkinson Support Group, Treasurer, 3740 Pebble Beach Dr., Martinez, GA 30907.
